The Boat House is my second architectural project during my undergraduate studies. The project is located by the river in Roger Williams Park, south of Providence. The owners of this building are a middle-aged couple. Before the pandemic, this was a boat house, and many families would come here on summer weekends to go sailing or fishing. The couple hopes to transform the building’s left wing into a restaurant that can serve coffee, and breakfast, and host gatherings.

The overall design language is inspired by the sails of sailboats. Several sail-like structures are built on the large plaza in front of the house. This design not only provides shade and shelter from the rain but also attracts people with its striking form, inviting them to explore the space. The restaurant includes a pickup window so that customers can quickly collect their purchases without entering the building.
